The PTFE liner is an inner vessel of a hydrothermal autoclave reactor composed of the Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Since it is a chemically inert material, it does not react with the solvent or any chemical used during the hydrothermal reaction.

It is white and shiny in appearance. With the use of PTFE liner, the hydrothermal autoclave reactor becomes resistant to corrosion. Because it is acidic and alkaline resistant, it is employed in strongly alkaline and acidic solutions. If the researchers demand a temperature of less than 200 °C, consider a hydrothermal reactor coated with PTFE.

The core elements of a hydrothermal reactor are the external high-quality stainless-steel jacket and the internal PTFE liner or PTFE chamber. The reaction is carried out at a maximum temperature of 240 °C (428 °F) in a PTFE-lined autoclave, whereas the safe temperature is 200 °C (392 °F). The autoclave for hydrothermal synthesis is primarily used for crystallization procedures and the production of nanoparticles. It is also known as the hydrothermal bomb because it operates at extremely high temperatures and pressures.
