Specifications of Aluminum Multi Foil Gas Sampling Bags

The multi-foil gas sampling bag generally made up of the four protective layers where the outer layer is of Nylon, while the inner layer is made up of polyethylene.

The multi-foil gas sampling bag generally made up of the four protective layers where the outer layer is of Nylon, while the inner layer is made up of polyethylene. It makes the sandwich of aluminum foil of thickness 0.000762cm. Hence it is also known as Aluminium multi-foil gas sampling bag.

It is stable fo the low molecular weight compounds like methane, carbon dioxide, carbon mono oxide, and permanent gases, but it not recommended for the low ppm VOCs. These bags are chemically inert and protection to light and moisture. The maximum operating temperature in these is 90-degree centigrade. The sample stability period is 78 hours.

The Aluminium multi-foil gas sampling bags are available in a range of capacity from 500ml to 100 liters. The combo valve is made-up of polypropylene (PP) material, with a hose connection for sample inlet and silicon septum at the top. The diameter of the hose connection is 7mm. We also supply a bag with a dual valve. The valve can be formed in other materials too such as Teflon or stainless steel (SS), which is on-demand as per client requirement.

How to Use Aluminum Multi Foil Gas Sampling Bag?

      • Always use a new and contamination-free bag for sampling.
      • The bag has a valve or nozzle at the top for collecting gas samples.
      • Attach silicone tubing between the sampling pump and the bag valve, then open the valve and run the pump to fill the bag.
      • The bag can also be connected to a double-ball device, where gas is pushed inside by manual squeezing.
      • For low-pressure gases, use an appropriate vacuum pump with a controlled flow rate.
      • Fill the bag only up to 80–90% of its capacity to prevent stress or damage.
      • Avoid overfilling, as it can affect the bag’s strength and the sample's accuracy.
      • Do not allow the internal pressure to go above 6000 Pa while filling the bag.
      • The bag should feel slightly flexible after filling and should not become overly tight.
      • If the bag becomes too firm, release a small amount of gas immediately.
      • Once sampling is complete, close the valve securely by turning it clockwise.
      • Write the sample details, such as date and sample number, in the marking area provided on the bag.
      • Avoid contact with sharp or abrasive surfaces during transport and storage.
      • Use the same gas type in a reused bag to avoid contamination.
      • Before reusing the bag, flush it 3 times with high-purity nitrogen to remove any residual gases or impurities.
      • If the valve includes a silicone septum, the same spot can be pierced with a needle up to five times before replacement is needed.
      • Send the collected samples to the laboratory within 48–72 hours for proper analysis.

      Safety Measures and Handling

      • Make sure all staff are properly trained in bag handling and gas safety procedures.
      • Check that chemical-resistant and lint-free gloves, safety goggles, respirators, and face shields are available before handling gases.
      • Inspect every bag carefully for pinholes, torn seams, faulty valves, dents, or surface damage.
      • Ensure the tubing, fittings, and connectors are suitable for the gas being sampled.
      • Use sampling bags only in well-ventilated spaces or under proper exhaust systems when handling harmful gases.
      • Keep the bags away from flames, sparks, heated surfaces, and other ignition sources.
      • Use grounding and anti-static protection when working with flammable gases.
      • Keep spill kits and first-aid equipment readily available during handling and sampling.
      • Carry filled bags in covered containers to protect them from sunlight and sudden pressure changes.
      • Label every bag properly with the required safety warnings.
      • Do not keep heavy items on top of the bags, and store different gas samples separately.
      • Check the bags for leaks using a gas detector or soap-water solution during use.
      • Remove any swollen, weak, or damaged bag immediately and ventilate the surrounding area.
      • Open toxic gas bags only in areas with proper exhaust or ventilation systems.
      • Dispose of the bags in accordance with hazardous waste disposal guidelines and regulations.

      Suitable Gases

Recommended for collection and storage of:

      • Methane (CH₄)
      • Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
      • Carbon monoxide (CO)
      • Permanent gases
      • Ambient air samples
      • Industrial gases
      • Biogas
      • Hydrocarbon gases

Not recommended for highly reactive compounds or very low ppm VOC applications.

Applications of Aluminum Multi Foil Gas Sampling Bags

It generally used in the petroleum industries, environmental organizations, scientific and educational institutions. Because of the portable nature of the bags, it is very convenient to carry for gas sampling. It is better to avoid sample collection of unstable or highly reactive compounds.

      Construction Details

The bag consists of four protective layers engineered for enhanced gas retention and environmental protection:

      • Outer protective nylon layer for mechanical strength
      • Dual aluminum foil barrier layers for low permeability
      • Inner polyethylene layer for chemical inertness and sample compatibility

This multi-layer construction minimizes gas diffusion, moisture ingress, and light exposure during storage and transport.
